Two words. One split.
Seven guesses and one decisive move.

JopChi (“YOP-Chee”) is a twice-daily dual-word puzzle for iOS. Every game hides two five-letter words at once, and every guess is scored against both of them together. Morning Game 1 runs 12:00 AM – 11:59 AM PT; Evening Game 2 runs 12:00 PM – 11:59 PM PT.

JopChi, launching soon. The words PLANT and BLEND float over a canyon at dawn, split by a bolt of lightning. Eight guesses, including one split. Two puzzles every day.

How the Rift Works

Two hidden words differ in exactly three letters. That difference is the rift. The other two letters are already shared, in the same correct positions — so every board begins with common ground and a gap to close.

In this example Word A is CRANE and Word B is CLOSE. Both start with C and end with E, so those two letters are already shared and correctly placed. The middle three letters differ — R, A, N against L, O, S — and that is the rift you have to close.

An example guess, CRUST, scored against both words: C is in the right spot in both words; R is in the right spot in Word A; S is in the right spot in Word B; U and T are grey: they are not part of either word.

Before the split

You guess a five-letter word and it is scored against both hidden words at once, on a single grid. A letter can be confirmed in one word, the other, or both — and when it is merely present rather than placed, the board deliberately will not tell you which word it belongs to. That ambiguity is the puzzle.

The split

After at least two guesses you may spend a turn on the Split: an irreversible move that breaks the board into two separate grids, one per word. From then on each guess is scored against each word independently. Split too early and you have little to go on; leave it too late and you run out of turns. Reach turn 6 without splitting and it fires automatically.

Winning

Eight turns, and the Split spends one of them — so seven guesses. You win by getting both words, and you must Split at some point to do it.
